THE OSUN STATE Police Command is in the news again for the wrong reason. Late night Tuesday at around 10:oopm, the men of the State CID stormed Fakehinde Area of Ido Osun with guns to illegally arrest three occupants.
The policemen numbering five were said to be acting on a petition by one Albert Akinyemi a.k.a Neubartosh.
Speaking with The Telescope Nigeria on the phone Comrade Sola Adeleke, the Director of Publicity for Rights And Responsibility Africa, RaRA, said, “How can policemen go and effect arrest10:00 pm00pm over a civil case of alleged illegal occupancy or failure to pay rent.
“The Inspector General of Police should caution the Osun Police Command if they do not want the people to take to the street.
“In fact, if these people are not released by the morning, we will make a strong representation for the removal of the Commissioner of Police and a complete overhaul of the Osun State Command because over the recent month, they have been engaging in illegal activities that is tarnishing the name of the Nigerian Police Force.
“These people leaving at Fakehinde are people you may say are trying to rebuild their lives after they have been hit by the fortitude of life. The late Kabiyesi of Ido Osun, Oba Adeen Adedapo gave the apartments to these people to live and rebuild their lives. The apartment is not even fit for a normal living but for people who could not afford the basics of life, it is better than living on the street.
“These are the same set of people that one Albert Akinyemi from Ekiti State is using the police to harass. He took them to court and the case was dismissed as the magistrate said it was absurd for him to sue all of them together.”
It could be recalled that The Telescope Nigeria published a few days back that the said Albert Akinyemi allegedly forcefully threw out the properties of three families including an aged octogenarian, Madam Ayeni. He was said to have with the policemen allegedly stolen some of their properties including a television set, home theatre, toast machineand , glass-lid cooking pots among others.

As of 11:00 pm when one of our reporters spoke with two of the arrested victims, they were told by the arresting policemen that their petitioner would com at 10:00 am the following day.
“It is so sad, that policemen can descend so low because of pittance to go and harass innocent citizens at late hours with guns as if they were going to arrest armed criminals or Boko haram. I think the IG should fish out these five policemen and post them to Sambisa Forest to go and fight terrorists for the nation.
“We will mobilise the Civil Society Organisations against the police in Osun if this tide is not stemmed by higher authority. We are calling on the leadership of the Nigerian Police Force and the amiable Governor of Osun State to right this wrong now and not allow the police to make the state ungovernable for him.
