Area Commander instigates abduction of an Oba

THE AREA COMMANDER, Ilesa, AC Yusuf Taiwo has allegedly instigated the abduction of  Ayodeji Akeem Gbadamosi (Alajebandele of Ajebandele).

According to a petition brought before the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG),  Zone XI by the Counsel to Alajebandele, the Area Commander is constituting himself a nuisance and a tool in the hands of nefarious people and “constituting himself as a boss above the AIG.

According to witnesses, “It is now a notorious fact that the Area Commander, AC Yusuf Taiwo in the course of discharging his duties sees himself as the alter ego of the police force to the extent of dabbling into civil matters, the subject matter of which is in the High Court. There were several occasions he would be acting as a Judge of the High Court even over civil matters like chieftaincy, land and contract”.

In this case, according to a source, a suspected hired assassin had told Oba Akeem that he “had been paid to terminate his life, but since he is a familiar person he should come for him to settle the case between the Oba and the people who wanted him dead”.

It was while waiting for the woman (Selimo) that the policemen attached to the Area Commander surfaced.

“Recently, there was a case involving HRM (Oba) Ayodeji Akeem Gbadamosi (Alajebandele of Ajebandele) in Atakunmosa West Local Government over a land dispute wherein one of his family members who had been stealing from the produce of some land purchasers and owners on their farmland at Ajebandele, including the land bought by one Mr Olanrewaju Akinfenwa and one Prince Adeyanju which made a Counsel forwarded a petition against the woman named Grace A. Abimbola (Selimo) before the Inspector General of Police, Zone XI, Osogbo. While the case had been taken over by the AIG, the Area Commander still went and ordered the arrest and brutality of HRH (Oba) Ayodeji Akeem Gbadamosi to the extent of his being hit with a gun butt by a police officer, Kehinde Adigun sent by the Area Commander to bundle him before his office like a common criminal and instead of taking him to the hospital for treatment, he was whisked away to the Area Commander’s office who had already prepared to charge him to court, if not for the prompt intervention of the men and officers of the AIG, Zone XI, Osogbo.

“In the presence of the police officers who bombarded the Alajebandele as a common criminal, some thugs engaged by Selimo started hitting the king with sticks among them was one Musibau who was later detained for questioning with Selimo at Zone XI.

“The atrocities of the Area Commander, Ilesa whose retirement is due soonest calls for the intervention of the IG for we are not in a police state, and the rule of law cannot be trampled upon.

“We hereby draw the attention of the IG and AIG, Zone XI, Osogbo to the ways and manners the Area Commander, Ilesa, AC Yusuf Taiwo handled cases with brutality each time he became conspicuous that a reasonable person would suspect that he had collected money to violate the right of whosoever a complaint is lodged before him”.

The reason for this arrant disobedience and disregard for the office of the AIG, Zone XI, Osogbo is not farfetched. We learnt reliably that at a time the present AIG had ordered that his office should not be taking cases from other divisions and commands. Petitions warranting the transfer of cases from lower divisions and commands are being treated with disdain.

“The AIG, Zone XI, Osogbo should reconsider the order made against the transfer of cases to his office”.

Meanwhile, the AIG has summoned the Area Commander to appear before him on Friday.
