How Atiku defeats hard fighting Wike

THE PDP primaries will go into history as one of the most keenly contested. It was rumoured that it was characterised by high spending by contestants.

But what decided the game does not portend any good news for the unity of country.

Though horse trading is not new in politics but this threatened the unification of the country that is already divided on religious and tribal lines.

Impeccable sources informed The Telescope Nigeria that though the game changer was Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, it was learnt that it was the Chairman of PDP, Iyorchia Ayu that reached out to Northern Elders to see this as a Northern agenda.

He was quoted to have said that in PDP, the last person that governed was from the South and it is now the turn of the North. He was further quoted that there was no way that Tambuwal would win but he would divide the Northern vote.

Pre primary era, Tambuwa was a close ally of Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and it was believed that it was a done deal that Tambuwal was to step down for Wike.

When Tambuwal announcement came in, it was a shocking relief for Atiku’s camp. An elated honourable Dino Melaye could not hide his feelings; he physically carried the game changer up to the admiration of all.

Meanwhile, it is reported that leaders of thoughts, elder statesmen from four of the six geo-political zones of the country, under the aegis of Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum, SMBLF led by South-South Leader, Chief Edwin Clark have criticised PDP act of electing Atiku as its flag bearer. It called it an affront and a slap on the people of the South. It added that at the PDP special convention held on Saturday, May 28, 2022, “certain candidates from the North were pressured, coerced, and even intimidated to step down for Atiku Abubakar, who eventually emerged as the flag bearer of PDP, in utter derision of the established principle of zoning and rotation of power between the north and south”.

On the card now, according to information reaching The Telescope Nigeria, Atiku after visiting Tambuwal, would make a trip to Wike and there is talk that he may be picked as the Vice President.
