Double honour for Funke Akindele amidst divorce saga

IT HAS been double honour for cerebral actress, Funke Akindele as she has been nominated as for consideration for the post of Deputy Governor Peoples Democratic Party Governorship Candidate for Lagos State, Olajide Adediranand has been invited to join the Oscar Academy Class of 2022.

This is coming on the heels of her alleged impending divorce by the husband.

Funke took to her Instagram to celebrate her accomplishment of being the only Nigerian actress to make the list of over 300 members invited to join the Oscar academy class of 2022.

The ace actress and filmmaker was invited to become a member for her award-winning movie “Omo Ghetto: The Saga,” and comedy series, “Jenifa”.

The Academy on its website states “The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is extending invitations to join the organization to 397 artists and executives who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.

“Membership selection is based on professional qualifications, with an ongoing commitment to representation, inclusion and equity remaining a priority.  The 2022 class is 44% women, 37% belong to underrepresented ethnic/racial communities, and 50% are from 53 countries and territories outside the United States.  There are 71 Oscar® nominees, including 15 winners, among the invitees.
“Four individuals (noted by an asterisk) have been invited to join the Academy by multiple branches.  These individuals must select one branch upon accepting membership.

“Those who accept the invitations will be the only additions to the Academy’s membership in 2022”.

Funke Akindele was listed as number 1 on the actors section which has other actors like, Caitríona Balfe, Reed Birney, Jessie Buckley, Lori Tan, Daniel K. Daniel,
Ariana DeBose, among others.

According to the spokesperson to Adediran, Funke “was nominated alongside four other people, whose names are Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, Kolawole Vaughan, Adenike Shobajo and [Rasheed] Teslim-Balogun. Jandor has not named anyone as his running mate yet.”

Akindele’s nomination is coming days after her colleague, Tonto Dikeh was announced as the running mate to the ADC governorship candidate in Rivers State.

“After series of consultations with leaders of our party the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State and the national level, I’m glad to announce Amb. Tonto Dikeh (tontolet)as my running mate for the 2023 gubernatorial election in Rivers State,” Tonte Ibraye, the governorship candidate wrote.

She is yet to address the issue of her marital life. It could be recalled that this is the second marriage of the actress and the current marriage produce twins.
