UNITED STATES President Malaria Initiative, PMI, in collaboration with Zamfara State Government and Breakthrough, a development partner, will commence the distribution of 3.1 million Insecticide Treated Nets in its fight against malaria.
This was disclosed yesterday by the State Commissioner of Health, Yahaya Muhammad Kanoma while declaring the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention, SMC, campaign opened at the state’s Ministry of Health in Gusau, the State Capital.
“3.1 million ITNs will be distributed through massive campaign across the 147 wards of the 14 local government areas of the state, part of which, children between 3-59 months old will be considered with a view to protect them from contracting malaria throughout malaria season”, Alhaji Kanoma has said.
He further said that, while the distribution exercise will be flagged off simultaneously at recognized 1,111 distribution points across the state, eligible households are expected to register from 4th to 12th of August.
“Households will be registered from 4th to 12th of August, therefore are advised to collect their net cards during registration which will happen concurrently with the first cycle of SMC.
“Note that, the distribution will commence on the 24th August to 2nd of September 2020, and that the newly collected nets must be hanged under shade for 24 hours before use.
“We are not going to operate on photo shop but, will do so under the watchful eyes of the general public, many experts from Abuja were here for the purpose of sensitisation as stakeholders in the state”, the Commissioner added.
