THE JOINT Security Forces operating across the forests of North Western states have succeeded in the killing of over 120 bandits and recovered numerous firearms and motorcycles at Gidan-Jaja village of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
This is coming even as bandits engaged and killed some soldiers of the Operation Hadarin Daji, OPHD, at Birane village also of the same local government area just last week.
A reliable source, said that, the well coordinated encounter was carried out by troops from Niger Republic, soldiers from both the 35 Brigade and 17 Battalion of the Nigerian Army, Katsina, Police Special Operatives and personnel of the OPHD.
The operation which was code named Operation Clean Sweep saw a renewed vigour in the joint forces which also used two gunships as air component of the encounter that destroyed over 60 bandits’ camps and left many of the fleeing bandits dying from bullet wounds in the bushes.
The source also disclosed that, about 400 rustled cows, over 20 AK47 rifles, several live magazines were recovered along side the rescue of six kidnap victims.
Some residents of Gidan-Jaja who witnessed the operation, said they noticed sudden movement of heavy armoury in the area in the early hours of Friday, and later heard heavy gunfire.
Ibrahim Dan Agwai said, “since the battle field is about 10 kilometers from our village, we went to see the outcome of the attack and l personally counted over 100 dead bodies and different human body parts dismembered from their owners.
“Since the soldiers did not prevent us from going to the bush after they had finished the operation, they advised us against going to the area in the coming days for fear against diseases from the smell of the decomposing bodies.
“We are happy over this military activity which will definitely and drastically reduce the activities of the bandits which had kept us in constant fear,” another resident, Shamsu Usman has narrated.
