The Commissioner for Sports Development in Kaduna State, Professor Kabir Mato yesterday reiterated his commitment and determination towards achieving his mandate which he said is basically to revive and develop sports in the State.
He assured that he will do his best with support from sport lovers and stakeholders in the state to take sports to the next level.
Professor Mato stated this when he received on a courtesy call to his office, committee members of the Kaduna Sports Stakeholders Forum, KSSF, who were in his office first to officially congratulate him on his appointment and express the readiness of the forum to support him to achieve his mandate of reviving and developing sports in the state.
The Commissioner who agreed that sports has not received the best of attention during the first tenure of this administration, assured that the Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai is more than ever before ready to give it all it takes to develop sports in the state.
He informed the committee that the state is going to commence school sports in full force and also revive grassroot sports..
” We shall be engaging the young ones positively and develop their sporting talents which will in turn help reduce social vices in the system.
“The government is also going to embark on building neighborhood centres, identify areas originally meant for sports, recover them and compensate those who may have acquired them legitimately.
“We are also going to work seriously on the Murtala Square and make it exclusively a sports centre apparently on a Public Private Partnership, PPP, arrangement”.
The Commissioner also acknowledged the fact that there are bundles of sporting talents in the state and assured that they will be properly harnessed.
” I will from time to time call for a meeting of an expanded stakeholders in the sporting industry to rub minds and together chat a way forward in sports development in Kaduna State” he promised.
Earlier, former Commissioner of Youths and Sports in the State, Hon. Mohammed Abdul-Azeez who led the committee on behalf of the Chairman Dr. Tijjani Yusuf told the Commissioner that the sports stakeholders are worried with the way sports is being handled in the state, and that if necessary measures are not taken, it might go worse, hence the visit for a way forward.
He assured that the forum is ready to work with him, provide ideas that will help develop sports in the state
