Kwara moves to ensure only hygienic meat are sold

The Kwara State Government says it will ensure animals slaughtered in abattoirs across the state are hygienic and safe for human consumption.

The State Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi stated this in ilorin when the Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association, Kwara State chapter paid him courtesy visit in his office.

Mr Alabi who praised the veterinary Medical Doctors for their ingenuity in the profession noted that it takes only genius to treat and communicate with animals.

While affirming that the future of Nigeria lies in farming which animal husbandry is key,  the Deputy Governor assured the Veterinarians of government’s support especially with their dream of having abattoirs where animals slaughtered for consumption would be free from diseases accros the State.

He noted that the government would fulfil its obligations to make the state the template for others to follow.

Mr Alabi commended members of the Association for their support in ridding the state of diseases.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Kwara State Nigeria Veterinary Medical Association, Doctor Saka Shittu thanked the Deputy Governor for attending the induction of Veterinary Doctors at the University of ilorin and solicted for government’s partnership ahead of its Veterinary Week coming of between the 14-16 of next month.

Doctor Shittu explained that the Association has enough qualified doctors to assist government in its drive to ensure wellness of kwarans by ensuring that all animals especially those to be slaughtered for consumption are vaccinated and certify healthy before taking them to abattoir

In their separate remarks, Doctor Mohammed Ghali, Doctor Ibrahim Khalid and Doctor Abolaji Afolabi also commended Mr Kayode Alabi for attending the veterinary induction at the University of Ilorin stressing that that singular honour has raised the banner of the profession as the first throughout the Nation to have a Deputy Governor attend its induction ceremony.

They called on the government to empower the veterinary doctors across the state for them to perform optimally their statutory responsibility of protecting the lives of people by making sure that animals they eat are well taken care off.
